… sufficient to respond to pumping-it-down needs of a coachload or two of holiday-makers.

The overall amplitude of ambient conversing was rather high but, if a particular voice was not in dominate-the-conversation mode, not intrusive. One man, not far from my table, took it upon himself to speak above the level of his table pals (ie shout at them), disturbing the loud-but-anonymous voicings of the room. Noisebusters & Johnny Bach were more than sufficient to deal with him.

21.41    It took some time to find the church: it was hiding from me. The Willises live nearby so I went to them seeking help. Peter drove to All Saints with me following I…

… was the first of two benefits for Shallal. As with most small & community-based projects, Shallal is underfunded at the best of times. These are not the best of times for the funding of small, community-based projects.

Jo Willis, Wife of essence-Brother Peter, is an important part of Shallal & its continuing presence in the world. The Willises arrived en masse, with eldest daughter off with pals (a wise choice for a teenager faced with an evening of bleeping & droning). A family friend substitutes (third from left)…

SoundSculpture running, audience in at 18.30. A few words from Jo Willis at 19.25. Showtime at 19.30 for 55 minutes to a full house.

How was it? Best guess: honourable, the world continuing to turn while not being radically changed, and Theo playing very well. We lost a couple of audients towards the end. Otherwise, well received. Hopefully Shallal has done well & will survive. Best criticism I received, from Peter: young Luke (far right pic above) calmed down as soon the music began.

Back to It Is Acceptably Modesto for supper at the bar & a call from the Minx.
